CL: Barcelona FC Beat Benfica 2-0

Spanish giants Barcelona FC defeated Benfica 2-0 at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica on October 3, 2012 with goals from Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas in each half to make it two wins from two in the Champions League.

Lionel Messi was at his best setting up both the goals for the Catalans’. Barcelona defender Carles Puyol, who was returning after a two-week layoff, fell awkwardly in the 75th minute and was carried off on a stretcher. The club later said he had dislocated his left elbow and is very much doubtful for the ‘El Clasico’ clash on October 7.

Barcelona were reduced to 10 men late in the match when Sergio Busquets was sent off for lashing out at Benfica’s Maxi Pereira.

Tito’s men now top Group G with six points, two points ahead of second-place Celtic.
