GEA Westfalia Separator Opens Bangalore Production Facility

Report by Santanu Ganguly, Bangalore: A 6 billion euro conglomerate GEA Group, known as the largest system provider of Machines and Process Technologies Worldwide and market leaders in the Food and Energy Sectors, inaugurated its new facility in Bangalore.

This new state of the art facility was inaugurated by Mr Markus Hullmann, President of GEA Mechanical Equipment and member designate GEA Executive Board. Speaking at the occasion Mr Hullmann brought to light-“Whether you drink beer, wine, juices or milk, use edible oils for your food or whether you take antibiotics against inflammations, vitamins as food supplements or walk into a restaurant for dinner, or you use mineral oils, chances are good that our machines have been involved in the production process of all these products. With over 2500 applications that GEA offers worldwide most are now available in India”.

Initially GEA Westfalia Separator a high technology company operated in highly selected and niche areas of the Indian industry which was limited to certain Chemical/Pharma applications and Casein plants where there was limited competition. In due course, the economy opened up, custom duty tariffs came down – which led to a larger canvass that made in-roads in most of the application areas.

As of today, GEA continues to provide innovative solutions to the customers and have penetrated in markets for many standard applications. Food, Pharma and Energy remain the main focus areas. Antibiotic Projects, Dairy including Casein Projects, Naphtha Treatment Projects, Vaccine Projects, Fruit juice, Instant Coffee, Edible Oil Projects are areas where the company is active in India.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Markus Hullmann said, “India is a diverse country with various religions, languages, income levels. India’s growth has accelerated since mid 90‘s, and the country has grown at 5%-6% consistently for the past 17 years. The growth has been driven by a sustained reform agenda pursued by successive governments. In addition, investment goes a longer way in India due to high capital efficiency. India has sufficient financial resources for growth. Consumer spending is already growing at a rate of 8%CAGR driven by an emerging middle class that has created a large market“

He further added, “In addition to services, manufacturing is also growing swiftly at 4%CAGR, driven by labor productivity increases, and reflected in exports. Even if the government continues the current pace and theme of reforms, growth rates (GDP) of ~6% are expected in future. We strongly feel that Indian Industry deserves the best in World class technology. This production centre is our effort in making that technology affordable.”

GEA Westfalia Separator India’s planning for Production in India, started in late 2005 to address the growing needs of the local Indian market as well as to address the cost effective solution of the global market. Prototype Decanter centrifuge UCD 205 was developed at Bangalore and since then Indian Production has crossed several milestones.

Currently GEA Westfalia Separator India Bangalore unit is successfully producing Decanters up to 350mm diameter for global market for environmental application as well as addressing the needs of the Indian market for various applications. Since 2006 GEA Westfalia Separator India Bangalore unit has exported & installed approximately 500 decanters worldwide. Presently this unit can produce 250 Decanters per year.

With this expansion, GEA Westfalia Separator India Bangalore unit will be able to increase its output capacity as well as find opportunities to address the demand for other market segments by adding small process specific customizations said Mr Ashok Narula, MD , GEA India.

GEA Westfalia Separator is an old and reputed company that was established at the end of 19th century in Westphalia, an area in the north of Germany, from where the company derives its name– Westfalia Separator. 120 years ago, GEA Westfalia Separator started first with the production of milk separators, separating cream from milk. Afterward GEA Westfalia Separator moved step by step into many other fields and applications - food, industry and mineral oil.

Bangalore to Host ‘Aero India 2013’ on Feb. 6

EFT Bureau, Bangalore: Indian Defense Minister Mr. AK Antony would inaugurate the Ninth Edition of Aero India on February 6, 2013 at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bangalore.

Organized by Department of Defense Production this biennial event provides a significant platform for Indian and Foreign vendors. The five day show aims at promoting products and services being offered by Indian Defense Industry in the International Market and providing exposure to the Armed Forces, R & D personnel to the latest Aviation and Aerospace Industry.

While Aero India 2011 saw the participation of exhibitors from 29 countries with more than 675 companies and 47 overseas delegations accommodated over the gross exhibition area of 75,000 Sqm, the Ninth Edition of this International Aerospace Exhibition is expected to see the participation of over 600 companies and 78 overseas delegations accommodated over an approximate area of 1,25,000 Sqm. The largest overseas participation is seen from USA with indoor space occupied being 1,185 sqm followed by Israel and Russia. Other major participants are France, UK, Germany and Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Ukraine, Australia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Japan, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, UAE and Singapore.

The event would also see the participation of aerobatic teams—Flying Bulls from Czech Republic, Russian Knights-Russian Air Force Aerobatic Team and IAF’s Sarang Aerobatic Team.

The first edition of Aero India was held in December 1996 with an objective to provide significant platform for business opportunities in the International Aviation sector as well as to exhibit capabilities of Indian Defenses R&D and Production. Being a biennial event subsequent editions were held in 1998, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011. While a modest 176 companies participating in the second edition of Aero India in 1996, the event in its Ninth Edition of 2013 is expected to feature over 600 companies.

More than 78 official delegations are expected to attend the four day exhibition with many products expected to be launched by Indian and Foreign Companies during the exhibitions. Several Business to Business meetings are planned to be held on the sidelines. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is the Event Manager of Aero India 2013.

Storm Music Festival 2013 From Feb. 1–2; Shankar Mahadevan, Indian Ocean to Perform

Shankar Mahadevan and Indian Ocean, two powerhouses of the Indian music industry, are set to collaborate for the first time for the grand finale of the second edition of Storm Music Festival.

The two-day fest is scheduled to start on Feb. 1 in the misty landscape of Napoklu in Coorg, Karnataka.

The Storm festival, a camp-out music festival, is expected to witness a mélange of bands, singers, songwriters as well as electronica artists from the country and abroad across four stages.

The fest will go beyond music, with workshops on farming and yoga. The festival also stands firm on its 'No drugs' policy.

Jet Airways Starts Mangalore-Dubai Flight From Jan. 3

India's leading private carrier, Jet Airways will start a daily flight from Jan. 3, 2013 for six days in a week, from Mangalore in coastal Karnataka to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 170 economy seats will fly six times a week to Dubai and back.

The flight (9W532) will depart from Mangalore at 8 pm and arrive at Dubai at 10.30 pm (local time) on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Departure on Tuesday will be at 7.40 pm and arrival in Dubai at 10.10 pm (local time).
On Friday, the flight will, however, take-off from Mangalore at 7 pm and land in Dubai at 9.30 pm (local time). Return flight will depart from Dubai at 10.30 pm and land in Mangalore at 3.30 am on Saturday.

On the return leg, the flight (9W531) will depart from Dubai at 11.30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and arrive in Mangalore next day at 4.30 am.

The airline currently operates daily direct flight to Dubai from New Delhi and four services a day from Mumbai.

US Metal Band ‘Slayer’ to Perform in Bangalore on Oct. 20

American thrash metal band Slayer is set to perform live during the day long festival 'Rock 'N India' in Bangalore on Oct. 20, 2012.

Slayer was formed in Huntington Park, California, in 1981 by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Slayer rose to fame with their 1986 release 'Reign in Blood,' and is credited as one of the "Big Four" thrash metal acts, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax.

Hanneman, King, and bassist/lead vocalist Tom Araya, contribute to the band's lyrics. King and Hanneman create and arrange the music with additional arrangement from drummer Dave Lombardo and sometimes Araya.

Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival Begins in Bangalore

Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival kicks off at the Karnataka Golf Association course in Bangalore on Sept. 6, 2012. India's top amateur golfers will compete in the three-day festival.

The fourth edition of South India's largest amateur golf festival will see top-notch golfing action as the amateurs tee off for a spot in the Indian team to represent the country at the World Golfers' Championships in Durban, South Africa from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3.

The winners of last year's edition of the festival finished third amongst 48 participating countries at the Golfers' Championships.

There is an added incentive for the competing golfers this year as one winner will get an opportunity to compete at the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Cup.

The player with the best gross score, and whose name does not feature on the IGU Order of Merit will get to compete in the Edinburgh Cup, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 at the Windsor Castle.

With support from the State Department of Tourism, the Festival showcases Karnataka as a premier golfing destination to promote golf tourism in the state.

In addition to top amateur golfers, the Festival will also see celebrities Syed Kirmani, Erapalli Prasanna, Sunil Joshi and Venkatesh Prasad. The five winning individuals in various handicap categories will participate in the World Golfers' Championship, and the victorious team will win a royal week-long trip on the luxurious Golden Chariot train, sponsored by the Department of Tourism.
