Torkham from Afghanistan, Amar Bondhu Rashed from Bangladesh, Seday from Bhutan, Insaaf (Maldives), Diyalee from Nepal, A Garden in Shigar, All That Jazz from Pakistan, Nildiya Yahana from Sri Lanka and Indian regional films like 1.30 am and Ekaa will be screened at the four-day festival.
The festival is also celebrating “100 glorious years of Indian Cinema.’’
Yesteryears actor Randhir Kapoor and director Prakash Jha are expected to be among the prominent film personalities who will attend the festival.
Paris Hilton to Play at Goa Fashion Week
The heiress, who visited India last year to launch the Fall-Winter designs of her handbags, made her debut as a DJ this summer during a music festival in Brazil.
The four-day fashion extravaganza is scheduled to take place on Goa's popular Candolim Beach.
Akshay Kumar to Inaugurate IFFI 2012 in Goa on Nov. 20
The name of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was also short-listed along with Akshay to inaugurate the festival, which is being held in Goa annually since 2004.
IFFI 2012 is expected to be a grander event this year with over 2,500 people attending it, as against the 1,000 odd invitees. Goa government would be spending around Rs 9 crore for the 10-day event.
The central government will only foot the bill for the inaugural and closing ceremonies.
Goa Bans Water Sports, Swimming on Beaches for Monsoon
"The permission granted by the Captain of Ports for plying off water sports vessels within the state of Goa has come to an end. Therefore, all the water sports operators plying their vessels within the state of Goa are hereby directed to stop their operations immediately," a state government directive said.
The statement, issued by the state information and publicity department, also said that water sports operators, who continue with popular water sports operations like jet skiing, speed boating, banana boating, para-sailing and the like, would be banned from water sports-related activity.
"The vessel shall be confiscated and auctioned," the statement said, adding that the directives were issued because "during the monsoon, the sea is rough and hence dangerous for swimming."
"All tourists as well as the general public are therefore hereby cautioned not to venture into the sea so as to avoid untoward incidents which may include death due to drowning," it further said.
According to figures released by the Goa government, nearly 2.7 million tourists arrived in Goa during the October 2011–March 2012 season, out of which nearly half a million were foreigners.
SRK to Buy 50% Stake in Dempo Football Club
Negotiations are at an advanced stage and the deal should close in a week or two. Shah Rukh Khan, whose cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders won this year's Indian Premier League, confirmed he is buying the club, but refused to share details.
Goa-based Dempo FC made history in April this year when it won the I-League (Indian Football League) crown for a record fifth time.
According to sources, Dempo FC spends close to Rs 12 crore a year to run the team. The club is managed by 58-year-old Armando Colaco since 2000 and recently lost its star goal scorer Ranti Martins to Kolkata's Prayag United.
Cooperative Bank to Offer 24-hr Cash Deposit Facility in Maharashtra, Goa
"Cash depositing machines are a first for cooperative banks. Customers can now deposit cash in the 24-hour machines, which can even filter fake and soiled notes. The money will be reflected in real time in the customer's account," the bank's chief executive officer Utekar said.
"While private banks like HDFC and ICICI have only begun this facility (24-hour cash deposit machines) at a few places, we will provide the facility at four branches," he said.
He said TJSB, which had a Rs 7,000 crore turnover in the last financial year, would also start operations in Gujarat with the opening of four branches within six months.
The TJSB currently has more than 70 branches in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.
Indian Jewelers Call for Country-Wide Shutdown Today
The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation called for a country-wide shutdown on March 17, 2012 to protest against the government's budget proposal to increase basic customs duty on standard gold bars, gold coins and platinum by two percent.
"All jewelers and all associations across India have unanimously called for a total bandh of all jewellery establishments on March 17, which may also extend to March 18 and 19 based on joint decisions as a mark of protest against the Budget," the jewellers body said.
"This is in protest against the imposition of excise duty proposed across the whole sector in the annual budget 2012. The industry has decided to represent to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee the displeasure of the trade of the imposition of what they say was the control measures that actually killed the sector between 1962 and 1992," it added.
Indian jewellery makers criticized Mukherjee's proposal to increase basic customs duty on standard gold bars, gold coins and platinum, saying that it would adversely affect the country's gold jewellery industry as the prices of finished products would rise.

Voting Begins in Goa on March 3
Polling for the single phase Goa assembly elections for 40 assembly seats began in Panaji on Saturday, March 3, 2012.
The electorate numbering 1,026,306 — men 511,111 and women 515,195 — will seal the fate of 215 candidates, including nine women candidates.
The voters will exercise their franchise in two districts of Goa — north Goa accounting for 23 assembly segments and south Goa for 17 assembly segments.
The main contest is between the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party-Maharashtrwadi Gomantak Party alliance. The Trinamool Congress, a new entrant in Goa's political canvas, has fielded 20 candidates.
Other parties like the Samajwadi Party, the Samajwadi Janata Party, the Republican Party of India and the Janata Dal-Secular are also contesting, along with regional parties like the Goa Vikas Party and the United Goan Democratic party (UGDP).
Ballotting will be spread across 1,612 polling stations, and several units of para military forces have been deployed for security.
The assembly constituency with maximum number of candidates is Vasco-da-Gama.
Votes will be counted March 6.

Actor Shahid Kapoor Celebrates 31st Birthday in Goa
Indian actor Shahid Kapoor celebrated his 31st birthday on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 with 30 of his close friends in Goa, and says he had a blast.
“Just spent the last two days with 30 of the maddest, funnest people… Great to feel friendship, love, real smiles and joy with those who matter. Will miss you Goa… You really are special,” Shahid posted on his Twitter page.
“Home to family now… ok people time to get onto that plane and back to reality… Home, family and Kaizer (dog), I miss them… Love you all, thank you,” he added.
Several celebrities attended the birthday party including filmmaker Kunal Kohli, photographer Atul Kasbekar and others including Nargis Fakhri and Tabu.

Goa Carnival 2012 to Begin From Feb. 18-21
The annual Goa Carnival 2012 is scheduled to be held in Goa this year from Feb. 18-21. The colorful Goa festival is celebrated annually in the month of February and lasts for three days. It is one of the eagerly awaited events of the year.
The Carnival of Goa is the time to indulge in feasting, drinking and merry making. During the Goa Carnival, the state comes to life due to a multi-cultural essence. Although it is primarily a Christian festival, it is celebrated by people of all religions and culture with the similar enthusiasm.
Goa Carnival was introduced by Portuguese, who ruled over the state for more than 500 years. People from different parts of the country come to Goan Carnival to take part in the revelry and enjoy themselves.
The carnival starts with a magnificent display of colorful floats. The celebrations are also accompanied by a prize distribution ceremony, where the best floats are adequately rewarded. Floats, colossal parades, bands, balls and dances together symbolize the Goa Carnival. Groups of masked revelers dressed in dazzling costumes sing and dance to the tunes of the renowned musicians.
Goa Carnival ends with the popular red-and-black dance held by the Club National in Panaji. The word 'carnival' literally means to take away meat. And as the name suggests, people stay away from meat during the 40-day period of fasting of Lent that follows it.
