IIMA to Host 5th Conference on ‘Marketing in Emerging Economies 2013’ From Jan. 9–11

The fifth conference on “Marketing in Emerging Economies, 2013” will be held at Wing 10K, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), Gujarat from Jan. 9–11, 2013.

The objectives of the conference are:

* to provide a special forum to present and discuss research on marketing in the Context of and/or Applicable to Emerging Economies.

* to facilitate sharing research based marketing knowledge among academicians and practitioners.

Vadodara to Host National Electrical Summit 2012 From July 6–7

The Gujarat’s Vadodara city will play host to a two-day National Electrical Summit 2012 from July 6–7, 2012 in which issues related to national power scenario and power quality, among others, will be discussed.

The event has been organized by the Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI), Society of Power Engineers (SPE) and Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd (GETCO).

"This event has been dedicated to Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, as FGI celebrates his 150th birth anniversary," Geeta Goradiya, FGI president said.

"This two-day summit will discuss and deliberate upon the current power scenario in India including Gujarat, future challenges and will seek innovative solutions," SK Negi, managing director of GETCO and one of the organizers of the summit said.

Linc Pen to Set up Rs 25-cr Plant in Gujarat

India's leading writing instruments maker, Linc Pen and Plastics plans to set up a manufacturing facility in Gujarat with an investment of Rs 25 crore.

The company has a factory in Kolkata and a plant near Kolkata in the special economic zone of Falta, which can produce close to 10–12 crore pens per month.

The Kolkata-based firm recently sold 13.5% equity stake to Japan-based Mitsubishi Pencil for Rs 20 crore.

The expansion would be funded through Linc’s internal accruals as well as the funds it would receive from Mitsubishi Pencils

'Swami Vivekananda Yuva Rojgar Mela' Helps 65,000 Youths to Procure Jobs in Gujarat

The Labour and Employment Department of Gujarat government on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda has organized 'Swami Vivekananda Yuva Rojgar Mela' in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Earlier, the state government has organized more than 500 placement fair in different parts of the state which enabled 65,000 youth to procure jobs.

In all 65,000 youths were selected by various private companies which include 52,000 who got regular employment, while 13,000 were selected for apprenticeship.

During the placement fairs, employers from 2,287 companies participated and did the initial screening as per their requirements in which 662 were big units, 1071 were medium-sized and 554 were small units.

Indian Jewelers Call for Country-Wide Shutdown Today

The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation called for a country-wide shutdown on March 17, 2012 to protest against the government's budget proposal to increase basic customs duty on standard gold bars, gold coins and platinum by two percent.

"All jewelers and all associations across India have unanimously called for a total bandh of all jewellery establishments on March 17, which may also extend to March 18 and 19 based on joint decisions as a mark of protest against the Budget," the jewellers body said.

"This is in protest against the imposition of excise duty proposed across the whole sector in the annual budget 2012. The industry has decided to represent to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee the displeasure of the trade of the imposition of what they say was the control measures that actually killed the sector between 1962 and 1992," it added.

Indian jewellery makers criticized Mukherjee's proposal to increase basic customs duty on standard gold bars, gold coins and platinum, saying that it would adversely affect the country's gold jewellery industry as the prices of finished products would rise.

Axis Bank Unveils ‘Mohur Silver Bars’

Indian financial services firm, Axis Bank has unveiled 24 carat Mohur Silver Bars, which are imported from Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux (PAMP), Switzerland.

The bars carry a 99.99% purity Assay certification. In order to ensure zero damages, the Bank said, these silver bars are packaged in a tamper proof cover.

In the launch phase, Axis Bank will offer Mohur Silver Bars in 100gm denomination at its branches in major cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Subsequently, other cities will also be covered.

The rectangular Silver Bars can be purchased by all Axis Bank/non-Axis Bank customers either by Cash, Credit/Debit Card or through Account debit.

AIIMS MBBS Entrance Test 2012 on June 1

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will conduct common medical entrance test for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) courses on June 1, 2012.

The test will be held in Ahmedabad, Bangaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Raipur.

AIIMS invites applications in the prescribed form through online mode for admission to MBBS Course of AIIMS New Delhi. The Prospectus and application form will be available on website from March 5.

The cost of application form for AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam 2012 is Rs 1000 for General or OBC categories and Rs 800 for SC/ST.

The last date for applying online is April 2, till 5 pm.

Indian Idol 6 Audition Dates, Venues Announced

Sony Entertainment Television has announced the audition dates and venues of India's biggest singing reality show, Indian Idol Season 6. The audition for the sixth edition of the show is going to start from March 23–24, 2012 in Kolkata. Mini Mathur and Hussain who have previously hosted the show will once again be back as the faces of the show.

The Indian Idol 6 audition will be held at different regional venues and on different dates.

Tata Housing Launches Low-Cost Township in Ahmedabad

Tata Housing in collaboration with Ahmedabad -based Arvind Real Estate announced the launch of first phase of the low-cost integrated township scheme under 'Shub Griha' near Ahmedabad, Gujarat on March 1, 2012.

For the project which is aimed at providing budget houses to low and middle-income groups, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Arvind and Smart Value Homes LLP, has been created to develop the township which will be spread across 135 acres at Vadsar-Kalol Road, about 20 kms from Ahmedabad.

Under the 'Shub Griha' scheme, 1091 low-rise apartments having carpet area from 293 sq ft to 457 sq ft will be built with a price tag between Rs 7.92 lakh and Rs 12.33 lakh. The project will cover 18 acres of the township land.
