Euro 2012: Oranje to Face Germany in a Must Win Game Today

Pre-tournament favorites Netherlands faces a tough challenge today (June 13, 2012) when they take on Germany at Oblasny Sport Komplex Metalist in Kharkivin, Ukraine in a must-win game after their surprise 1–0 loss to Denmark in their opening Group B match. Reports of discontent have started emerging within the Oranje camp after their shock defeat to Denmark with vice-captain Rafael Van der Vaart leading the charge.

Veteran defender Joris Mathijsen has been declared fit for the crucial match while midfielder Wesley Sneijder is likely to start despite sustaining a minor knock. The last time Netherlands and Germany met was in a friendly in Hamburg, Germany where Joachim Low's side recorded an impressive 3–0 win. Defeat today could see Bert van Marwijk’s side become the first casualties of the Group of Death.

In another update, police in Warsaw have made over 183 arrests relating to clashes between Poland and Russia fans. The highly charged-up Group A clash ended in a 1–1 draw. Russia’s Alan Dzagoev is now the top-scorer of Euro 2012 with three goals.
