Bollywood biggest hit of 2011 Ekta Kapoor’s ‘The Dirty Picture’ will have a major art-house release in France on July 4, 2012. Released with French subtitles, it will be shown on three screens in Paris and one in Orleans. The flick will also travel to smaller towns in France and Paris suburbs, releasing in all major art-house cinemas there.
The Dirty Picture, a biographical drama film inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, a South Indian actress noted for her erotic roles, stars actress Vidya Balan as the main protagonist. Produced in a budget of Rs 18 crore, the film grossed Rs 117 crore worldwide. The Dirty Picture was released worldwide on December 2, 2011 (the anniversary of Smitha's birth) in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions. Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi play the other lead roles in the film.
'The Dirty Picture' not only bagged commercial and critical acclaims, but it also earned 3 National Awards - for Best Actress for Vidya's electrifying and sensational performance in the movie, Best Make-up Artist and Best Costume Design.
