NTCA to Conduct Tiger Census in India Annually

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has decided to annually conduct tiger census in all the tiger reserves of India from 2012.

The annual census would be conducted in the tiger reserves of India, including six in Madhya Pradesh, namely Kanha, Pench, Bandhavgarh, Satpura, Panna and Sanjay Dubri tiger reserves.

However, the ongoing practice of counting the big cats in the forest areas every four years would also continue in tandem.

In Madhya Pradesh, the census would be conducted in cooperation with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
