Kolkata’s First Gay Carnival on Dec. 9

Kolkata will host its first gay carnival at the Rabindra Sadan ground on Dec. 9, 2012.

The Rainbow Carnival will see a congregation of people of same sex/gender orientations.

"There are people who fall outside the so-called 'normal' category. For them, their way of life is normal. This carnival is to show our support and solidarity," said Subhagata Ghosh of Sappho for Equality (SFE), the organizer.

With games, music and discussions, the fete is being touted as the "right mixture of the profound and the profane."
