CL: Manchester City Held 2-2 by Ajax FC at Etihad

It was a night of frustration for Roberto Mancini as Manchester City were held 2-2 by Ajax FC in their Group D encounter at Etihad Stadium on November 7 pushing the Citizens’ closer to another Champions League group stage exit.

In a must-win match for the English Champions, Dutch side Ajax FC were up 2-0 by the 17 minute thanks to a brace from their captain Siem de Jong and some sloppy defending by City’s defenders. Yaya Toure pulled one back for City with an acrobatic volley in the 22 minute and Sergio Aguero leveled the score-card in the 74 minute. City had a goal by Sergio Aguero ruled-out for offside and were also denied a clear penalty after Ajax’s Ricardo van Rhijn fouled substitute Mario Balotelli in the final-kick of the night.

Roberto Mancini confronted referee Peter Rasmussen after the match and is likely to be charged by UEFA with improper conduct and faces a heavy fine.

Manchester City still sits at the bottom of Group D after this draw and need to beat Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund for any mathematical chance of going through.
