Good news for retired armed forces personnel Indian Union cabinet has finally approved a Rs 2,300-crore welfare package for ex-servicemen, which includes meeting their long-pending demand of one rank, one pension and also permitted dual pension on Sept. 24, 2012.
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) also approved bridging the gap in pension of the junior commissioned officers and jawans, joining the service before and after January 1. 2006.
Headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the CCS has enhanced family pension, dual family pension and family pension to mentally and physically challenged children of armed forces personnel on marriage.
The discrepancy in pension among armed forces personnel of same rank but retiring on different dates, was one of the key causes of acrimony between bureaucrats and men in uniform.
