India’s biggest private sector general insurance company, ICICI Lombard launched a new health product—Complete Health Insurance—promising a higher base sum insured of up to Rs 10 lakh, outpatient department (OPD) cover, maternity benefit, new born baby cover, personal accident cover and reimbursement of wellness and preventive care expenses, among other things.
Like all new health products, this plan does not impose any upper limit on the renewable age. Add-on covers offered under the policy include critical illness-donor expenses cover, and Hospital daily cash allowance-convalescence benefit. The former pays a fixed lump-sum for treatment of critical illness and reimburses expenses incurred by the organ donor for undergoing any transplant surgery. The second combination offers a pre-defined amount per day of hospitalization and during the recovery period.
Policyholders, however, can avail of these benefits only in the cover pairs specified. In other words, they can't buy say either critical illness benefit or donor expenses cover. This apart, the policy covers nursing expenses at home of up to Rs 3,000 per day. The plan also covers the cost of an immediate family member's economy class air travel (up to Rs 20,000) in case the insured's hospitalization extends beyond five days.
