Olympics: Indian Shuttler Parupalli Kashyap in Quarter-Finals

Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap (25), ranked 21st in the world, defeated Sri Lankan Niluka Karunaratne 21-14, 15-21, 21-9 in the last 16 stage to reach the Men's Singles Quarter Final of the London Olympics today.

Kashyap is the only Indian male shuttler to reach the quarterfinals stage at the Olympic Games, surpassing his mentor and coach Pullela Gopichand.

The previous best performance by an Indian in Men's Singles Badminton was by Dipankar Bhattacharjee, who entered the third round at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
