Bert van Marwijk Resigns as Netherlands Coach

After a disastrous Euro 2012 campaign, which saw his team lost all their group matches, Bert van Marwijk has stepped down as Netherlands coach.

Bert van Marwijk has stepped down as the coach of Holland with immediate effect, the Dutch FA (KNVB) announced on June 27, 2012. His contract had been due to run until the 2016 European championships. He led the Dutch side to an impressive campaign in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, winning nine out of 10 matches, but in Poland and Ukraine they suffered defeats to Germany, Portugal and Denmark and finished bottom of Group B without a point.

The 60-year-old former Feyenoord and Borussia Dortmund coach took over the national side in 2008, replacing Marco van Basten, and guided the Oranje to a runners-up finish at the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

Under his guidance the Oranje lost just four of 45 matches. Van Marwijk said that he felt "responsible" after the team lost all three of their matches in Euro 2012.
