UAE-Funded Bridge in Pak’s Swat Region to Open Next Week

Abu Dhabi, March 10 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates- (UAE) funded Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge in Pakistan's Swat region will open next week.

The 330-metre-long bridge will link a large number of cities and villages on the banks of the Swat River.

The foundation stone for the $12.4 million project to replace the original 40-year-old bridge that had been destroyed in the floods was laid in December 2010.

The bridge is part of the UAE's humanitarian efforts in friendly countries.

It will serve 70,000 people in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said the director for the Pakistan Assistance Program, Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli.
