Train to Khajuraho Starts Operating

Khajuraho — a UNESCO world heritage site in Madhya Pradesh that is known for famous Hindu temples and their exquisite architecture and erotic sculptures — will finally come on the railway map on March 15, 2012.

The Udaipur-Gwalior Express has been extended to Khajuraho, in Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh. Passengers will board the train from Agra Cantonment station around 11 am and reach Khajuraho in the evening.

The proposal for a train to Khajuraho had been hanging fire for a few years. Agra’s tourism industry was keen that a direct train be provided so that tourists could visit the famed destination.

From Udaipur to Khajuraho, the 1106 km distance will be covered in 21 hours and 20 minutes. The rail link to Khajuraho from Jhansi was completed more than a year ago.
