India Celebrates Sachin's 100th Ton; Celebrities Pay Tribute

Indians took to the streets to burst crackers and cheer after India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar scored his elusive 100th international ton on Friday, March 16, 2012 in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh.

Youngsters burst crackers and distributed sweets after the batting maestro reached the magic figure in 138 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six.

One of Tendulkar's biggest fans, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar also extended her heartfelt congratulations to the iconic player. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan is elated with master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar's 100th century and calls him "God's special creation." Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan also extended his congratulations to Tendulkar.

International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat called Sachin a modern-day great. Former Australia captain Adam Gilchrist said Sachin was the best batsmen of all-time.

Pakistani legend Javed Miandad said the 38-year old was a role model for the upcoming cricketers. "I congratulate Sachin on behalf of Pakistan. I am sure people in India would be extremely happy about this. Anyone who wants to pursue a cricketing career, Sachin is the one to be followed," said Miandad, who is tied with Sachin for six World Cup appearances.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly called him a "true champion." The sport's administrators in India and outside joined in praising the legend. The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) N. Srinivasan described Sachin's feat as a colossal one.
