US: Comcast to Launch Online Video Service on Feb. 23

Comcast announced plans to offer Tuesday that will supply a library of TV shows and movies to subscribers, a move that could further push Netflix into extinction.

Comcast, the largest cable provider in USA, will launch an online video service “Xfinity Streampix” on Thursday, Feb. 23, 3012 that will supply a library of TV shows and movies from partners including Walt Disney Co., Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, and NBC Universal to subscribers.

Streampix is a free service for those with premiere video packages and costs $4.99 for lower tier customers.

Comcast may lure away Netflix customers simply because of pricing. A cheaper alternative could persuade more subscribers to pay a few dollars more to a service they already use.
