Vice Prez to Present Best Electoral Process Award to Jhabua Collector on Jan. 25

EFT Bureau, New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has selected collector of Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district Ms. Jaishree Kiyawat for Best Electoral Process Award-2012. The award will be given to her by Vice President of India Mr. Hamid Ansari on Voter’s Day—January 25, in New Delhi.

Jhabua district was given a target to include names of 30 thousand voters on the basis of population during summary revision of electoral rolls launched in October 2012. The district achieved the target easily, and went on to enroll more than one lakh voters. Besides, photo Identity cards have been distributed to 97 per cent of the eligible voters.

Population density is low in Jhabua, being a tribal dominated district. Under such circumstances, creating awareness among voters and including their names in electoral rolls was a challenging task. For creating awareness among voters in Jhabua district, street plays were staged, students’ rallies and various competitions were organized. Besides, Form 6 were distributed during the local Bhagoria festival for adding tribal voters’ names in electoral rolls.
