Report by Santanu Ganguly, New Delhi: The unusual interest in accumulating wealth on part of the young Indians is weakening their emotional attachment with the country and they need sensitization about their duty and responsibility towards the country, Supreme Court Judge Justice A K Patnaik has said.
"The younger generation has to be sensitized about its duty and responsibility towards the country in accordance with the spirit of Indian constitution". Justice Patnaik said Inaugurating the main program of the pledge festival organized by civil society Build India Group at Mavalankar auditorium in New Delhi on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.
Pledge festival is organized on this day by over 100 educational institutions including several universities and colleges across the country when students recite a pledge of allegiance to the country in their mother-tongue and give a written commitment to become good citizens.
Justice Patnaik said in order to convert the country into a nation, the citizens' sensitization was a must while lauding the efforts of civil society Build India Group for its efforts in promoting emotional integration in the country.
Dr Rajendra Prasad, Principal, Ramjas College, said most prominent innovators and inventors in the world were always belonging to the younger generation and in India this was not happening as Indian youth were today running after material gains. Younger generation, which constituted the largest part of India's population, should rise to the occasion and pledge their love and loyalty to the soil so that from among them would emerge good statesmen, scientists and litterateurs, Dr Rajendra Prasad added.
Presiding over the function, BIG president Biraja Mahapatra indicated about the involvement of number of institutions across the country while explaining the technique of write-recite-commit method in which students participate in the integrity building exercise being propounded by Build India Group.
Mahapatra said students write the pledge in their own mother tongue, recite it unison and sign their sheet of affirmation in their respective institutions. Mahapatra said BIG has dream mission of involving all students across the country in this project.
On this occasion, Justice Patnaik felicitated Apeejey School Principal Sh A P Sharma, AGDAV Public School Principal Mala Sood, City Prince Public School Principal Mrs Pradosh for their participation in the program as cause partners.
The program was marked by cultural events presented by AGDAV Public School, Model Town, Apeejey School, Seikh Sarai and artists of Help & Aids Foundation on nationalism as the theme.
