From a $10 collection in a 2008 fatal crash on the Navajo Nation to a $95,000 collection to pay off restitution in a political corruption case, the US Attorney’s Office in New Mexico toted up $8,735,655 and change in fiscal year 2012 related to criminal and civil cases.
Nationwide, US Attorneys’ Offices corralled $13.1 billion in the same period, doubling the amount from the previous year. Some $5.3 billion was deposited in shared cases involving more than one office.
The US Attorney’s Office in New Mexico also netted $1.9 million in a civil collection in an Environmental Protection Agency matter involving United Nuclear Corp.
