Emmanuelle Star ‘Sylvia Kristel’ Dies at 60

Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel—who became an international sex star after she played the title role in the 1974 erotic film “Emmanuelle”—died of cancer on Oct. 17, 2012 in The Hague, Netherlands. She was 60 years old.

The movie “Emmanuelle” told the story of a bored housewife living with a diplomat in Asia who fills her time having sex with various people.

Kristel also became famous for her steamy nude scenes in another 40 films, including lead roles in X-rated versions of Lady Chatterley's Lover and World War One spy drama Mata Hari.

Kristel was married and divorced twice. She had a volatile relationship with the British actor Ian McShane, whom she met while making “The Fifth Musketeer.” She also acknowledged romantic liaisons with Gerard Depardieu, Roger Vadim and Warren Beatty.
