Serena Williams won her fourth US Open title after defeating World no 1 Belarusian Victoria Azarenka 6-2 2-6 7-5 at Flushing Meadows on Sept 9, 2012.
The battle between the two big-hitting powerhouses lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes, the longest women's final since 1981, with the 30-year old American coming out on top. This is Serena’s 15th grand slam title.
Serena became the first woman to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year since, well, she did it in 2002.
