Habitat Film Festival 2012 in Delhi From July 21–30; Entry Free

Habitat Film Club has organized the Habitat Film Festival 2012 at Indian Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi from July 21–30, 2012 from 6 pm onwards. The 10-day festival will screen around 20 critically acclaimed films made in Indian regional languages. Legendary Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman is set to inaugurate the Habitat Film Festival 2012 on July 21, 2012 at 6 pm.

The film festival will also host the retrospective of Waheeda Rehman’s works. Although Bengali, Malayalam and Marathi films dominate this year’s festival, films made in Urdu and Punjabi are also included. The films in the festival tread a middle path – they are neither art cinema nor fully mainstream. The National Award-winning “Deool” directed by Umesh Kulkarni and the suspense filled “Chandrayaan” based on India’s first lunar mission are also included.

The screenings of the regional films are punctuated by Rahman’s retrospective. Her finest films like “Pyaasa,” “Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam,” “Mujhe Jeene Do” etc. are included in the retrospective. As the festival kick starts on July 21, Rahman will share her experiences with author Mukul Kesavan. The highlight of the festival is that all screenings will be followed with question and answer sessions with the filmmakers.

Passes for the film screening are free. Check out (http://www.habitatfilmclub.com/films.php) for the schedule and pass details.
