American Swimmer Phelps Wins Silver, Gets 17th Olympic Medal

US swimmer Michael Phelps won his 17th medal, a silver in 4x100 meter freestyle relay, now he is just one shy of the all-time record held by Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina. His US freestyle relay team was upstaged by France on the second day of competition at the London Games.

Michael Phelps won six gold and two bronze at Athens in 2004 and eight gold at Beijing in 2008. Phelps holds the all-time record for most gold Olympic medals (14) and for most gold medals in individual events (9).
