Airtel Lunches 4G Service in Bangalore

Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel Limited launched its 4G service in the tech hub of Bangalore on May 7, 2012. It will offer high-speed wireless broadband service to access high-definition video streaming, rapid photo and video downloads.

Long-Term Evolution (LTE) of radio access technology is the latest 4G standard in mobile networking technology, which provides data downlinkspeeds up to 40 mbps (mega bytes per second) and upload speeds up to 20mbps and high speed mobility support.

The company acquired Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) license spectrum through the auction route in 2010 for an unspecified amount to provide the 4G service in Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai)circles.

The company launched 4G service in Kolkata on April 10 and plans to roll it out across major cities in Karnataka during this year and in other remaining circles.
