As part of the celebrations to mark 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the Sangeet Natak Akademi announced that it would honor 100 artistes with Tagore Samman Awards for their contributions in the field of performing arts.
Tagore Ratna will be awarded to 50 artistes, while the rest will be bestowed with Tagore Puraskar at a special ceremony in Kolkata on April 25, 2012.
West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan will also felicitate 29 eminent personalities and scholars and 34 art practitioners and gurus in the field of dance, drama and music.
Altogether 100 Sammans will be conferred, out of which 50 are fellows with purse money of Rs 3 lakh, a Tamrapatra and an Angavastram and remaining 50 Sammans are awards with purse money of Rs 1 lakh, a Tamrapatra and an Angavastram.
Satguru Jagjit Singh Namdhari, Laxmi Narayan Garg, Prabha Atre, Buddhadev Das Gupta and R K Srikantan are some of the artistes who will get Tagore Akademi Ratna award.
