Sitar Maestro Ustad Shujaat Khan to Perform in South Africa From April 14–15

South African audiences will be treated to an evening of pure Indian Classical Music and Folk Music when the sitar genius Ustad Shujaat Khan takes to the stage in a concert titled Celebration of Sitar in April.

Ustad Shujaat Khan will perform live at Baxter Concert Hall in Cape Town on Saturday April 14, from 8 pm and the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg on Sunday April 15, 2012 from 4 pm.

The concert is a double bill and will see Shujaat first rendering traditional Indian Classical ragas accompanied by the tabla wizard Yogesh Samsi. The other part features Shujaat rendering folk, ghazal, sufi, and light classical compositions on the sitar, accompanied by Ajay Prasanna on the bansuri (bamboo flute). The duo will be joined on stage by two tabla players, namely Amit Choubey, and Arunangshu Chaudhury. The concert will be a rare treat showcasing three different tabla players on one evening.
