‘Mega Dams’ Convention in Assam From Feb. 25

Indian anti-dam activists will meet in Assam from Feb. 25, 2012 to debate the issue of proposed mega dams in the northeast Indian region and raise the demand for abandoning all the mega dam projects in the region and neighboring Bhutan.

The convention is being organized by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) — a leading farmers' body in the state, which had been opposing the construction of mega dam for the 2,000 MW Lower Subansiri hydro electric power project and other proposed mega dams in Arunachal Pradesh.

Indian social activist Medha Patkar and other leading activists have confirmed their participation in the convention.
