Maitree Bandhan Festival Kicks off in Kolkata; Runa Laila, Pankaj Udhas to Perform

The Times of India has organized an Indo-Bangladesh Cultural Festival “Maitree Bandhan,” which is an effort to strengthen ties between the two nations. The festival will begin at the Tollygunge Club Lawns in Kolkata with a concert by celebrated Bangladeshi Rabindrasangeet exponent Rezwana Chowdhury Bonna on February 23, 2012. She will have Lopamudra Mitra for company in what promises to be a memorable evening of music.

Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas along with Ferdous Ara will enthrall the audiences at the picturesque Prinsep Ghat, Kolkata on February 24 as a part of festival celebration. On February 25, popular singers like Usha Uthup and Runa Laila will perform at Prinsep Ghat.

Foodies and culinary aficionados can look forward to the Oh Calcutta and 6 Ballygunge Place on February 25 and February 26. Delicacies from either side of the border will be cooked up and served.

Farida Parveen from Bangladesh and Parvathy Baul from India will form a unique combination at the Prinsep Ghat again on February 26. Known as the "Queen of Lalon songs" — Parveen will be weaving magic with her earthy folk numbers that have been enthralling audiences in both countries.
