Rajinikanth on Hunger Strike Against Service Tax

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has joined a hunger strike by film and television artists in Chennai on Jan. 7, demanding roll back of service tax. Fourteen organizations of the Film and Television Industry have gone on hunger strike demanding immediate withdrawal of 12.36 percent service tax.

In Chennai, shooting and screening of films have been cancelled for the day. Representatives of the Telugu Film Industry have also demanded scrapping of service tax during a protest demonstration at the Film Chambers in Hyderabad on Jan. 7.

Representatives of various organizations and associations related to 24 departments of film making including senior producers, actors, writers and artists took part in the protest. They demanded the central Government immediately take steps to withdraw service tax on film industry.
