Peter Jackson's 3-D adaptation of JRR Tolkien's first novel ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ has made a record-setting opening in the US making $84.8 million surpassing Will Smith's 2007 flick ‘I Am Legend’ which opened at $77.2 million.
The epic fantasy film also made $138.2 million internationally, making a whooping total global debut of $223 million.
The second and third part of the film adaptation,'The Desolation of Smaug' and 'There and Back Again' are scheduled to hit theaters in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
