El Clasico: Barca Held 2-2 by Madrid at Camp Nou

The season’s first League Clasico was an all out-and-out Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo show with both the strikers scoring a brace for their respective teams. The match ended 2-2 at Camp Nou on October 7, 2012.

Ronaldo drew first blood in the 23 minute to become the first player ever to score in six consecutive Clasicos. Not to be outdone, Messi made it 1-1 eight minutes later to make the Camp Nou crowd, as well as some of my friends go ballistic. Then the world was treated to a Messi special in the 61 minute, the Argentine struck a 30-yard free kick that went over the defenders and dipped enough to beat Madrid’s keeper Iker Casillas high and dry. Ronaldo notched his second just five minutes later and restored parity from a Ozil’s through-ball. Messi-2 Ronaldo-2, that’s how the match ended.

Tito’s men now sit on top of the La Liga with Atletico Madrid (19 points each). Atletico Madrid beat Malaga 2-1 at home in another La Liga match played.
