Mahindra Launches its Smallest SUV ‘Quanto’ for Rs 5.82 Lakh

India's largest SUV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has launched the Quanto, its smallest sport-utility-vehicle (SUV) model on Sept. 20, 2012.

The Quanto, based on Mahindra's Ingenio vehicle platform, measures less than four meters in length.

Cars or SUVs that measure up to four meters in length qualify for a 12% excise tax—compared with 24% for larger vehicles—provided that their engine capacities are up to 1.2-liter in case of gasoline and up to 1.5-liter in case of diesel.

The Quanto has a 1.5-liter diesel engine and will cost Rs 582,000 ($10,778) to Rs 736,000 at dealerships in Mumbai for the four variants on offer.
