Ex-Heavyweight Boxing Champ Corrie Sanders Shot Dead in South Africa

Former WBO and WBU champion Corrie Sanders was shot dead by robbers at a restaurant during a family celebration in South Africa’s North West province on September 22, 2012.

In 2003, the 46-year-old African became the WBO heavyweight champion by defeating Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko in what is considered to be one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing history.

The South African southpaw retired in 2008, having won 42 of his 46 fights.
