Oscar-winning Canadian film director James Cameron is all-set to start filming three Avatar sequels at the same time. Avatar 2 is expected to land in theatres in 2015, with a third installation to follow. Shooting for the sequels are expected to begin in the autumn.
Actress Sigourney Weaver (62) will reprise her role as Dr Grace Augustine for the follow-up flick to the 2009 3D sci-fi film which tells the tale of humans exploiting the natural resources of the planet Pandora. The original Avatar, shot on a budget of $300 million, earned over $2 billion at the worldwide box office, earning the title of the highest-grossing film of all-time. Avatar also earned nine Oscar nominations and won three, and was named the year's best movie at the Golden Globe Awards.
James Cameron admitted he only plans to make Avatar films for the rest of his career. 'I'm in the 'Avatar' business. Period. That's it. I'm making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I'm not going to produce other people's movies for them, the 57-year-old director said.
In March 2011, James Cameron was named Hollywood's top earner by Vanity Fair, with estimated 2010 earnings of $257 million
