The Assam government inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangalore-based Narayana Hrudayalaya under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode for setting up a 300-bed super specialty hospital in the state, the first such in the northeast Indian region. It is also expected to cater to the needs of patients from Bangladesh and Bhutan.
An MoU was signed with Narayana Hrudayalaya Pvt. Ltd. for the hospital which will be built under PPP mode in Amingaon on the outskirts of Guwahati. The existing Tola Ram Bafna Civil Hospital at Amingaon will house the proposed hospital.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam will emerge as the health hub for the region and setting up of the super specialty hospital is the first step in this direction.
It will be a 300-bed hospital and will offer treatment at government rates on 50 percent of the beds. As many as 32 specialists (doctors) would be available in the hospital, which will offer super-specialty services in the departments of cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery and dialysis unit.
