Gurgaon to Get Indian National Defense University Soon

Indian cabinet approved acquisition of 205 acres land in Haryana's Gurgaon district, at a cost of Rs 162 crore, for setting up the Indian National Defense University (INDU) on Thursday, April 26, 2012.

A cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved the proposal to set up the INDU which will undertake long term defense and strategic studies and create synergy between the academics and government functionaries.

The INDU will also educate national security leaders on aspects of national security strategy, national military strategy, national information strategy and national technology strategy through teaching and research.

The cabinet also approved an amendment to Protection of Child Rights Act under which age of consent has been raised from 16 years to 18 years.

Official sources said the cabinet referred the bill on protecting women against sexual harassment at workplace to a Group of Ministers (GoM).

The cabinet also approved the proposal of the mines ministry to bid for and host the 36th International Geological Congress 2020.
