Pune Varsity to Launch Communication Skills Course

The University of Pune (UoP) will soon launch a mandatory communication skills development course for all its under-graduate as well as post-graduate students. The proposal, which had been submitted by the Board of College and University Development (BCUD), was accepted by the members of the academic council at a meeting held recently.

“The course will be on the lines of the recently launched human rights program,” said BCUD director Wasudev Gade. “The course will carry two credits, similar to the human rights course. However, the aim of the course will not only be limited to teaching the English language to the students but also improving their soft skills such as speaking, writing and giving presentations.”

“The course will be offered to the batches starting in June–July this year. It will be made compulsory for all the students coming under the university. It will also be made compulsory for all the departments, under-graduate and post-graduate. All colleges affiliated to the UoP will need to start the course,” said Gade.
