New Parking Rules in London During the Olympics, Paralympics

Tens of thousands of London motorists will have to apply for permits to park outside their homes and businesses during the Olympics or risk a £200 fine. Games organizers have admitted that their scheme to automatically issue 1 million temporary permits without affected motorists taking any action is not fool-proof.

Those who live in an area which does not have controlled parking — including half the residents of Newham — will have to apply for permits valid during the Olympics and Paralympics.

Anyone with a vehicle which is not registered to their address, such as a company car or other leased vehicle will also be required to provide documentation.

About a million temporary permits will be issued to 400,000 homes in a scheme to protect residents and businesses within a 30-minute walk from Olympic venues.
