Thyagaraja-Tansen Music Festival will be held from February 9–12, 2012 at Shantanand Auditorium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The musical festival will pay tribute to saint Thyagaraja and Miyan Tansen for the first time together on one platform.
Traditionally, the Thyagaraja and Tansen music festivals were held separately at different times of the year. The festival aims to bring together music students, teachers and enthusiasts of Carnatic and Hindustani music.
Organized by the Temple of Fine Arts Malaysia, the four-day festival will witness a Hindustani violin concert by three generations of performers - Padmabhushan Dr N Rajam, her daughter Dr Sangeetha Shankar and granddaughters Ragini and Nandini Shankar accompanied by tabla player Ajeek Pathak.
The event will also include performances by Hindustani vocalists Sveta Kilpady and Ravindra Parchure accompanied by Prakash Kandasamy on tabla. Vocalist Sampagodu S Vighnaraja will accompany S Sriram on violin and Ravi Shankar on mridangam who will also perform with Flautist Shantala Subramaniam and Akkarai Sornalatha on violin.
The fest will conclude with a performance by sitar maestro Ustad Usman Khan who will be accompanied by Prakash on tabla.
