Delhi’s Central University Jamia Millia Islamia hosted its annual northeast musical festival on Feb. 17, 2012. The amphitheatre at the university came to life with an ensemble of amazing rock music, folk songs and dances from the northeast.
About 600 students gathered for the annual celebration of culture and music organized by the university's Centre for North East Studies.
Welcoming the audience, centre director Sanjoy Hazarika said it is necessary to acquaint people about the region's rich culture.
He said the event will go a long way in strengthening the bond between the people of the region and the rest of the country.
The event, organized at the Safdar Hasmi Ampitheatre, was held for the second consecutive year. The theme was "Music from the borders."
The program started with rock music performed by a Delhi-based group. Bihu and Manipuri folk dances and a cultural show from Sikkim were also presented. Musical groups from the northeast Nagaland Singing Ambassadors and Rewben & Saka Mashangva also regaled the audience.
