Bihar Global Meet 2012 Begins in Patna; Nepal PM Inaugurates the Event

The second edition of “Global Summit on Changing Bihar” kicked off in Patna on Feb. 17, 2012. Nepali Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai inaugurated the three-day event. He discussed ways to accelerate the momentum of high growth and development strategies for the eastern Indian state.

Bhattarai, on his first visit to Bihar, formally inaugurated the meet in the presence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, dignitaries from 24 countries and hundreds of NRIs.

According to officials, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahulwalia, commission member Abhijeet Sen, Infosys former chief NR Narayana Murthy, IT major Wipro Technologies chairman Azim Premji, Aditya Birla group chairman Kumar Manglam Birla, Reserve Bank of India Governor D.Subba Rao, Securities and Exchange Board of India chairman UK Sinha, economist Lord Meghnad Desai, lyrist Javed Akhtar, Bollywood actor Sharmila Tagore, and filmmaker Prakash Jha are attending the meet.

Hundreds of Non-Resident Biharis (NRBs) from across the world and experts in different fields will gather in Patna for the summit from Feb. 17-19. The motive of the summit is to focus on changing Bihar and establish Bihar as a brand.

The first Bihar global meet was held in 2006.
