40th Hong Kong Arts Festival Kicks off; to Conclude on March 8

The 40th Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) kicks off on Jan. 28, 2012. This premier performing arts event of Hong Kong will run until March 8, 2012. As of January 30, more than 116000 theatre tickets had been sold, which accounts for 85% of all seats.

This year’s Arts Festival continues to receive an overwhelming response from audiences. Of the 170 performing arts events, over 100 performances have attained 90% ticket sales. In view of the overwhelming demand, six extra performances have been added to the performing arts program. Theatre Tickets for available performances will continue to be offered during the Festival period.
Among the exciting line-up of performing arts, the 40th Hong Kong Arts Festival includes 12 new works/world premieres, as well as 10 Asian premieres. In addition, a Festival symposium, a series of guided tours, masterclasses, workshops, together with a series of activities supported by the Urban Renewal Authority will be presented under Festival PLUS.

To celebrate the 40 anniversary, a special exhibition showcasing 40 years of Hong Kong Arts Festival Posters will be held at the foyer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from January 31 to March 4. Admission is free and this is the first time iconic Festival imagery has been displayed.
