The Election Commission of India has rescheduled the date of Uttar Pradesh's first phase election to March 3 instead of Feb. 4, 2012.
Counting for the assembly polls in five Indian states namely Goa, Punjab, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will be held on March 6 instead of March 4.
The change was made due to uncertainty that Barawafat, or Id-Milad-un Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, will be celebrated on Feb. 4.
