Innovation Crossroads Biological Conference Begins in Guwahati

Institute of Advanced Study in Science & Technology (IASST), Guwahati and Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB), Lucknow jointly organized a conference on 'Perspective and Challenges in Chemical and Biological Sciences: Innovation Crossroads' that begins at Borgaon in Assam.

Assam Governor JB Patnaik has stressed the need to take fruits of scientific research to rural India as much remains to be done in this regard.

''Rural areas lack good educational institutions and good teachers in higher secondary schools,'' he said. There is an imperative need for good science teachers at higher secondary level to inculcate scientific temperament in the minds of the rural youth.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said scientists have to find ways of solving the problems of the people like hunger, poverty, health and illiteracy.

He also called for proper application of science and technology for scientific utilization of the vast mineral and natural resources the North East region for the benefit of the people.
