Colombia: Cartagena International Music Festival Kicks off

World-renowned musicians and orchestras flock to Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Colombia's Caribbean coast, for the sixth Cartagena International Music Festival. The Adolfo Mejía Theatre, Plaza San Pedro Claver and Plaza de la Trinidad are some of the concert venues.

With a theme entitled “The Sound of the Americas,” the festival will offer an intensive program of concerts, talks, classes and workshops until January 14, 2012.

Pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, violinist Livia Sohn, Le Vent du Nord ensamble and soprano Jessica Rivera are among the performers in 2012. The Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra is the guest orchestra and pianist Stephen Prutsman is the festival's Artistic Director.
