Washington to Launch Asian Affinity Group, Screen ‘Chinee Girl’ on Nov. 11

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Human Resources Department (HRD) is setting up an Asian affinity group for employees and marking this by holding a public event to celebrate Asian cultures. The event is scheduled at Enrique V. Iglesias Auditorium, Washington DC, United States on Nov. 11, 2011 after 3.30 pm local time.

Objectives of the Asian affinity group:

* Enhance awareness on issues affecting Asians at the IDB and in international careers
* Exchange best practices
* Increase inclusion in IDB and networking among persons of Asian background
* Hold networking events with other organizations
* Establish a mailing list for exchange of information
* Recommend follow-up activities

Agenda:

3:30 pm: Networking over coffee/tea, alfajores
4 pm: Welcome
4.15 pm: Introduction by filmmaker Natalie Wei of her award-winning documentary about being a Chinese woman in Trinidad and Tobago
4.30 pm: Screening of 45-min documentary “Chinee Girl” by Natalie Wei
5.15 pm: Outline of issues related to recruitment and careers of Asian nationals and descendants in international organizations by panelists Hugo Li Pun, Kyoung-Ah Nam and Ruihua Dong, with comments by Natalie Wei.
5.30–6 pm: Q & A
6–6.30 pm: Wine and hors d’oeuvres
