India Turned Blue on the Eve of World Diabetes Day

India turned blue on November 13, the eve of World Diabetes Day when major monuments and historical structures across metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Bangalore illuminated in blue.

Famous landmarks of Delhi like Old Fort, Qutub Minar, Akshardham Temple and Humayun Tomb as well as Fortis Hospitals across Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR), Metro Bhawan and NDMC Building lit up in spectacular blue lighting at 6.30 pm on Sunday, Nov. 3 in an attempt to help Delhiites become aware of the dangers of diabetes. The event has been organized on the eve of World Diabetes Day which is observed on November 14.

“Diabetes Blue Monument Lighting Challenge” will be one of the main activities of Abbott Diabetes Blue Fortnight 2011, (ADBF 2011), India's biggest campaign to raise awareness on a disease that affects several thousand around the world every year.

Over five crore people are suffering from diabetes in India. Over 33 percent of diabetics are from Delhi/NCR region.
