In homage to late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, Idea Jalsa — Music for the Soul will dedicate a special episode on Zee TV on Sunday between 10pm to 11pm.
The ghazal maestro’s live performance clips will be interspersed with little-known personal anecdotes of Jagjit Singh’s life presented by Indian television presenter and actress Durga Jasraj. Incidentally, this was his last television performance.
She recounted funny moments of a young Jagjit Singh and his brother sneaking into theatres in Jalandhar to watch movies without tickets after palming off counterfoil pasted together seamlessly. “The way he performed at the Nazrul Manch in Kolkata on the same day that he performed his mother’s last rites in Delhi shows his sense of commitment,” she says pointing out, “Since our families were very close, there are so many such memories one has. I feel it will be in the fitness of things to share these with audiences.”
