Capital One Cup: Chelsea FC Thrashes Leeds United 5-1; Book Semis Spot Against Swansea City

After traveling 12,000 miles from Yokohama, Chelsea FC put up a convincing show at Elland Road putting their Sunday’s Club World Cup final defeat to Corinthians behind to beat Championship side Leeds United 5-1 and book a semi-final spot against Swansea City in the Capital One Cup (League Cup) on December 20.

Under pressure interim Blues manager Rafa Benitez, who is desperate for silverware, put up a strong line-up going into this match. Seven of the players who started in the Club World Cup final in Japan were in the starting eleven. Leeds took the lead much to the delight of 33,816‎ strong fans at Elland Road through Argentine striker Luciano Becchio in the 37th minute. But Chelsea hit back with a vengeance in the second half with goals from Juan Mata, Branislav Ivanovic, Victor Moses and Eden Hazard. Fernando Torres put the icing on the cake for the Blues with a simple tap-in goal in the 83th minute to complete the thrashing at 5-1.

Chelsea FC will take on fellow Premier League side Swansea City while Bradford City, who defeated Arsenal FC, will face Aston Villa in the other semi-finals.
